You probably have come across several Libreng Komiks strips shared in your newsfeed in Facebook. And yes, that's the reason why this book looks familiar. It's hard to unnotice it in social media because everyone has been sharing the strips every-so-often. With 168K followers (as of writing), the comic strips are certainly getting a freaking lot of attention.

Toto Madayag's P*cha, E 'Di Komiks is a compilation of webcomic strips and memes he originally created for his Facebook page called Libreng Komiks, but in the print are several exclusive contents that are not posted on Facebook. The jokes are mostly references to current social and political events which made it relatable to every reader and are delivered in a way that one would not have to think deep just to get the punchline. It appeals to everyone who is constantly updated with social media especially that the ideas being conveyed are mostly the same as the opinion of the general public.

The art style is one of the factors why the overall feel is humorous. Toto Madayag said that he wanted to draw the characters the way that is easy and simple so it would be more convenient when he start making new strips after strips. The style is based on Spongebob Squarepants and Adventure Time with facial expressions that are exaggerated—almost looking constipated—giving each panel a funnier vibe. Plus, the fact that it is colored makes it more appealing to the eyes.

Catchy titles are always a huge factor when creating comic books. While the webcomics is already popularly known as Libreng Komiks, Toto Madayag and his team had to debate about whether or not to call the compilation "Bentang Komiks" for the fact that it would not be free anymore when it is published. The problem though was "Bentang Komiks" would not have made sense to people who are not aware of Libreng Komiks. In the end, they named it P*cha, E 'Di Komiks. I'm guessing it's because they couldn't agree on a title and just said, "Anong title? Pucha, e 'di 'Komiks' nalang!" (that's just a theory though, because I would personally have done it that way).

In April 2016, Toto Madayag and his team raised funds to self-publish the book through "crowdfunding" campaign. They set a goal of 1,000 pre-orders from sure buyers and the funds raised from the PhP300.00 per pre-order was used to start publishing the book. Brilliant! The idea was from the Kickstarter campaigns of Lunarbaboon and other webcomic creators. Each person who availed the pre-orders got freebies.

My rating:

What I personally loved about P*cha, E 'Di Komiks is that I could easily relate to the jokes. I also loved the colors because they aren't too harsh on the eyes like other colored comics. I'm giving it 5 Bookmarks because it's the first comic book I read from start to end without closing it because I just couldn't.
